Best Roulette Strategies to Win at the Roulette Table

Author: Preston Davis | Updated: May 29, 2023

Roulette is one of the most popularĀ casino gamesĀ in the UK. Itā€™s a casino classic and is 100% down to chance. This is partially why itā€™s so popular atĀ UK online casinosĀ ā€“ no real skill is involved. Still, there are specific roulette strategies you can implement while playing roulette. When used correctly, these can help you beat the roulette wheel and increase your winnings.

On this page, we share the most successful roulette strategies. All are great in their own way and depend on the type of player you are. Have a read-through and choose one that suits you. Master these roulette strategies, and youā€™ll be sure to walk away with a bigger bankroll!

Why Use a Roulette Strategy?

If youā€™re on this page, you likely already know how to play roulette online. If not, check out ourĀ handy roulette guideĀ before going any further. This covers all the basics of playing roulette. And as any roulette player knows, the game is 100% down to chance. No amount of practice will make it easier to predict where the ball will land. This is why a roulette betting system is so important. It helps to maximise your winnings while reducing your losses.

In this way, a roulette strategy is not a method for you to predict the gameā€™s outcome. Nor will they decrease or remove the house edge. Instead, roulette strategies are tools to help you manage your bankroll. They act as a framework on which you can base your next decisions. They can teach you when to increase your wagers, walk away from the roulette table, and help you stay in control and play responsibly.

And with so many roulette betting strategies, thereā€™s bound to be one you like.

What are the Best Roulette Strategies?

Now to the important part ā€“ what are the best roulette strategies? Regarding roulette strategies, there is no ā€œone size fits allā€. Each helps you determine how to manage your money, and everyone likes to do this differently. Some strategies are ā€œsaferā€, whereas others are more aggressive. The best roulette strategy will be the one you feel most comfortable with.

The following sections share some of our favourite tried-and-tested roulette strategies. Our experts and many other casino players have found each successful when playing roulette. Have a read and see which one appeals most. Then, try implementing it next time you play roulette. Donā€™t like it? Donā€™t worry ā€“ you can always come back here and choose another.

Martingale Strategy

The Martingale system is a classic betting strategy that can be used for various online casino games, including roulette. It is one of the progressive roulette betting systems that tells players to double their bet every time they lose. Once you win, the size of the bet returns to its initial value, which will always be your minimum bet. The idea behind this system is that when you eventually win, youā€™ll receive your losses back and then some! Below is a working example:

BET SIZE
BET OUTCOME
NET WINNINGS
Ā£1
Loss
-Ā£1
Ā£2
Loss
-Ā£3
Ā£4

-Ā£7
Ā£8Win+Ā£1

You must only use the Martingale betting strategy for bets with a payout rate of 1:1, including red/black, odd/even, or 0-18/19-36. There needs to be a 50/50 chance that your bet will win. If youā€™re unsure, you can find more aboutĀ roulette oddsĀ here.

Labouchere System

The Labouchere system is another progressive roulette betting strategy. But this is a more complex betting system. It works as follows:

  1. Players start by choosing an amount that they want to win. They then divide this amount into several smaller amounts to form a sequence. For example, 10-10-20-30-20-10 = Ā£100.
  2. The value of the first bet is determined by combining the first and last numbers of the sequence. Following the same example, 10 + 10 = Ā£20.
  3. If this bet wins, both these numbers are crossed out. This leaves a new sequence: 10-20-30-20. The value of the next wager is determined similarly to the previous step. In this example, this would be 10 + 20 = Ā£30.
  4. On the other hand, a losing bet is added to the end of the sequence. So say this Ā£30 wager lost, we are left with a new sequence. This is 10-20-30-20-30.

There is also a Reverse Labouchere system that can be used in roulette. This roulette strategy works with the same logic in mind but in reverse. You add the number to the end of the sequence when your bet wins and remove the first and last numbers when you lose. As with the Martingale strategy, both Labouchere strategies only work with even money bets.

You can also choose to use the Contra Dā€™Alembert system. This is the same but in reverse. Rather than increasing your stake following a loss, you +1 after a win. With every loss, the stake is decreased by 1 instead.

Fibonacci System

You might have heard of the Fibonacci sequence before. This is a mathematical sequence beginning with 0 and 1. The next number in the sequence is the sum of the two previous numbers. As such, it goes as follows: 0-1-1-2-3-5-8-12-20 and so on. The Fibonacci roulette strategy works on the same principle. You use the value of the two previous stakes to determine the next. If the bet wins, progress forward, whereas a loss sees you move backwards. Once again, this roulette strategy is only effective when placing even bets. Below is a working example:

Paroli System

The Paroli roulette strategy is the reverse of the Martingale betting strategy. This is only for bets with payout odds of 1:1. This time; you double your stake every time your wager wins. Whenever your bet loses, you revert to your original minimum bet. The main benefit of this over the Martingale betting strategy is that you donā€™t need much money to start. Most of the bets you place are funded by winnings from previous spins. Below is a working example:

BET SIZEBET OUTCOME

Ā£5Loss-Ā£5
Ā£5Win+Ā£5
Ā£10Win+Ā£15

3-2 System

The 3-2 roulette betting strategy works by placing two bets simultaneously: an outside bet and a column bet. Three units will go on the outside bet, while two will go on the column bet. This is what gives the strategy its name. The problem with this strategy is that you need to win a lot to be profitable. Yet, it is one of the safer options as it covers many numbers at once. It would be best to cover multiple sections to increase your chance of winning.

If using the 3-2 roulette strategy, it doesnā€™t matter which outside and column bets you choose. Below are some examples:

  • Three units on red and also two units on column 1
  • 3 units on even and also two units on column 3
  • Three units on black also and two units on column 3

1-3-2-6 System

The 1-3-2-6 roulette betting system works by changing your stake with every loss and win. You work your way along the sequence. Each time you multiply your stake by the corresponding number. For example, if you placed a Ā£1 bet and won, this would increase to Ā£3. If you win again, the stake goes to Ā£2. When you get a losing bet, you go back to the start. And if you manage to complete the sequence, you also go back to the start. Below is a worked example:

Ā£1Loss-Ā£1
Ā£1Win+Ā£2
Ā£5Win+8
